There are lots and lots of books out there, but my suggestion is, find a good local yarn store that sells only knitting stuff (not Hobby Lobby or Wal Mart). Buy a pair of size 8 needles and one nice ball of worsted weight yarn and a how-to book they suggest. Then come back to the owner for help if you need it. If you are THEIR CUSTOMER, they will be glad to help you. Many stores offer beginner lessons and classes, too. Good luck and welcome to the party!
